The Agreement also recognizes the need to strengthen cooperation to address the loss and damage caused by the negative effects of climate change by strengthening the existing Warsaw International Mechanism. As most people know, as part of the global Paris Agreement, countries committed to achieving a 2030 climate target. The Trudeau government has promised to meet a 30 per cent reduction target already set by Stephen Harper starting in 2005. The indicator also contributes to the Sustainable Development Goals of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. It is linked to Goal 13 of the 2030 Agenda, namely urgent action to combat climate change and its effects, and Goal 13.2 “Integrate climate change measures into national policies, strategies and plans”. Fortunately for Canadians and the rest of the world, the temperature targets of the Paris Agreement are far too aggressive, at least according to standard methods of evaluating policy. . . .
