It`s incredibly common for an adoptive family to make a deal they believe they can hold just to find themselves over their heads after placement. Even if they can keep their short-term commitments, they often don`t think about what their life on the street will be like. What happens when the child gets older? What if one or the other party left? A good rule of thumb is not to promise enough and deliver too much. What is the bare minimum you can provide? Promise so many things. A biological parent will stick to your promises, and break it will break their trust and heart. If you can make contact more than you promised, definitely do it.
